A time saving sketch template!
It's no secret that I love a good sketch layer and its ability to save so much time when creating repeating patterns.
Once you have nailed the sketch layer all you have left is the fun part of creating a beautiful pattern without worrying about how it's going to work in repeat.
That's why I am delighted to share with you this brand new flowing floral sketch template which you can download now! (if you're subscribed to my mailing list, you'll find it already waiting for you in your inbox)

How does the pattern template work?
Download the template onto your ipad and save it to your camera roll.
Set up a new canvas in Procreate sized 12x12 inches and 300dpi
Import the template and after clicking the select tool click 'fit to canvas' so it takes up the whole screen. Now reduce the opacity so you can just see it.
Create a new layer on top and begin to design your pattern. (It's best to create each colour on a separate layer so you have flexibility later on to change things.)

Once you have finished your pattern, duplicate the whole canvas. (This is because in the next step we are going to merge the layers together but we want to keep an original document with separate layers so we can make edits later on)
In the duplicated canvas delete the sketch template and merge the pattern layers together. (If you have a separate layer for the background colour, keep this separate)
Now make a diagonal mark in the top left and bottom right corner, (This is so the whole canvas is selected in the next step.)

Now duplicate the layer 4 times so you have 5 identical layers.
Now move the top four layers to each of the corners of the canvas, making sure snapping and magnetics are on. The orange guidelines should appear when the layers are in the right place.

All that's left now is to delete the diagonal marks you made.
You've done it! Pattern completed!
What next?
You can use this sketch template again and again to create all sorts of different patterns and styles.
Take a look below at three different patterns I have created using this exact template.
You can create patterns in many different styles from this one template - the possibilities are endless!
If you're keen to try out these exact textures, I have a great product that helps you add these exact textures to your patterns in just a couple of minutes!
